Our vision and dream for the Healing Garden is to create a place of sanctuary and healing for people battling life-threatening illnesses. A place where the bounty of our work and sweat will go to feed low-income families who would stand to benefit from affordable access to fresh, local, organically-grown food. A place where families can come to get away from the rush of life and reconnect with the earth while helping to feed others in our community. A place of caring, giving and growing for everybody. A place of where we can also help to heal the land itself.
We need your help to make this place a reality.
In the late summer and early fall of 2013 our Healing Garden will begin to take shape. We'll plant fall crops like greens, carrots, beets and garlic and we'll plant most of the Garden in soil-building cover-crops( ) so the soil is nice and healthy come next spring. We will begin repairs on the hoophouses and greenhouse to get them ready for greens and cool-season root crops this winter.
The healing process of the land and the implementation of the Garden will take quite a bit of work. We plan to use only organic and bio-dynamic management and growing practices in the creation of the Garden.
We invite you to become a part of the Healing Garden! If you have time to share with us, please visit the upcoming events page to read about upcoming events with which we need your help. In addition to the physical labour of maintaining the Garden, we also welcome help with the 'backend' duties such as sorting and delivering the harvest, bookkeeping, community relations and just spreading the word about our goal. If you have any skills you'd like to volunteer, please fill out the form on the contact page to email us.
We also have a list of 'hard-cost' items we need help with on our GoFundMe page if you'd like to make a monetary donation to our cause. Click the GoFundMe logo to help us out.
